Call for Papers
"Think Peace, Talk Peace, Cultivate Peace"
In a world characterized by the growing instability and division between individuals and between groups in a society, the interest towards peace building is globally increasing. Deep social changes and challenges especially generated by technological innovations not only trigger us to think more creatively about the volatile future, also shows us that promoting and building peace in all fields of life is fundamental. We strongly believe that making the connection between peace-building and communication helps citizens all over the world to enhance their level of understanding, tolerance, and empathy to each other. It is, therefore, necessary to gain a better grasp of the theories and practices on building peace and communicating peace, to analyze the role of communication and conventional (as well as social) media in peace building, and to map the emerging problems and challenges for communication, media and peace journalism research.
The Center of Research and Communication for Peace in the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies at Eastern Mediterranean University invites submissions addressing the general theme of "Think Peace, Talk Peace, Cultivate Peace". CRCP 2018 Conference will be held between 8th - 9th of November, 2018 in Famagusta, Northern Cyprus. The conference aims at bringing together scholars, early stage researchers, and graduate students to present their research and exchange ideas in a range of topics including, but not limited to:

Paper presentation [20 + 10 mins]
The proposal should indicate the purpose of the study and its relevance to the theme of the conference. It can describe completed research or research in progress. For completed research, the methodology including the data collection and analysis procedures and the findings should be provided. For research in progress, steps related to the data collection and analysis processes should be described. For either submission, the proposal should include actual or anticipated results and their implications for future practices or further research.
Proceeding Book - Full Paper Submission
Selected proceedings of this conference is expected to be published in the peer-reviewed conference book following the conference. Please use the most recent APA style and formatting in your paper. Full papers should be maximum 5000-6000 words.
Prof. Dr. Nico Carpentier
Nico Carpentier is Professor at the Department of Informatics and Media of Uppsala University. In addition, he holds two part-time positions: Associate Professor at the Communication Studies Department of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and Docent at Charles University in Prague. His work focusses on the intersection of democracy, culture and conflict, with a vivid interest in discourse theory, participation and peace-building. His latest books are: The Discursive-Material Knot: Cyprus in Conflict and Community Media Participation (Peter Lang, New York, 2017) and Cyprus and Its Conflicts: Representations, Materialities, and Cultures (Berghahn, New York, 2018).
Prof. Dr. Stuart Allan
Stuart Allan is Professor and Head of the School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies (JOMEC) here at Cardiff University. Stuart has published widely in journalism, media and cultural studies. He has authored seven books, the most recent of which is Citizen Witnessing: Revisioning Journalism in Times of Crisis (Polity Press, 2013), and edited eleven others, including The Routledge Companion to News and Journalism (Routledge, 2012; revised edition) and Photojournalism and Citizen Journalism: Co-operation, Collaboration and Connectivity (Routledge, 2017). His research has also appeared in numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and contributions to edited collections, and has been translated into several languages. He is a founding co-editor of the online journal Journalism Education (published by the Association for Journalism Education), and serves on the editorial boards of fifteen international journals, including Journalism: Theory, Practice and Criticism; Digital Journalism; New Media & Society; Media, War & Conflict; Communication, Culture & Critique; Text & Talk; Environmental Communication; Time & Society; Journalism & Communication Monographs; and Global Media and China.
